Kelly Childs – Past President & Outreach Chair

Kelly Childs is the Board President for the St. Louis chapter of Slow Food USA, a not for profit she has managed for six years. Kelly received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri in English Literature and a Master’s degree from the University of Colorado in Comparative Religion. After graduation, she spent seven years as an Executive Recruiter with Heidrick & Struggles in the Financial Services and Supply Chain Management Practices. She also served as the Associate Director for the firm’s Wall Street office. She has completed the Foundation Studies program with the Center for Anthroposophy. Kelly was Chair of the Grounds Committee for several years and is presently a member of the Development Committee as well as Chair of the Board Advancement Committee.

Julianne Smutz – Past President

Julianne has spent her career dedicated to advancing nonprofit organizations. Early in her career she lead wilderness trips and facilitated team building experiences for schools, companies and organizations. She served as the Director of Sales for YMCA Trout Lodge and Camp Lakewood for ten years providing leadership to both the sales and marketing teams, as well as expanding their corporate team building programs. In 2011 Julianne transitioned to a career in higher education development as a gift officer for Webster University. She is now Associate Director of Development in the College of Arts & Sciences at Washington University. Julianne has served as a WSSL Trustee and Development Committee Chair since 2011. Julianne has a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Kansas.

Philip Scherry – Finance Chair

Philip received his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Webster University where he is also currently working on his Master of Business Administration. He has fifteen years of Project Management experience in the Information Technology sector and has been a Senior Analyst in BJC’s information technology department since 2012. He also serves as an elected Alderman for the City of Rock Hill and has over nine years of board experience with Canterbury Enterprises and Christian Brothers College Alumni Association.  Philip has been on the WSSL board since 2010; is the Secretary of the board and Chairman of the finance committee.  

Amy De Leal

Amy received her BA in both Studio Art and Philosophy from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, and her MA in Art Therapy and Counseling Psychology from the Alfred Adler Institute of Professional Psychology in Chicago, IL.  She has worked as an Art Therapist and a Master’s Level Counselor until she left the field to be a stay-at-home mother.  Amy served two years as a Room Parent and is in her third year as Chair of the Outreach Committee at the Waldorf School of St. Louis.  Amy has also served as a Member at Large and Secretary on the Board of the Arts Council of Lafayette Square.

Jonathan O’Dell

Jonathan O’Dell his wife, Kristi, daughter, Natalie and son, Jack, have been part of the WSSL community for 10 years. Natalie is a member of the eighth grade class and Jack is a fifth grader. Kristi also served the WSSL community as a room parent. Jonathan recently joined Edward Jones as Associate Funds Compliance Counsel and worked for 16 years with Wells Fargo Advisors, most recently as Compliance Manager for Regulatory Sourcing and Analysis. Jonathan holds a Juris Doctor from the Saint Louis University School of Law, Masters degrees in Marketing and Business Administration from Webster University and a Bachelor of Arts in Media Communication from Truman State University.

Lauri Bhagat- President & Campus Advancement Chair

Lauri Bhagat and her husband Amit joined the WSSL community 10 years ago. Their children are  Amara, Aadi in Grade 5 and Anjali, WSSL alum. Lauri is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and spent several years providing individual, group and family therapy to persons with chronic mental illness with Professional Counseling Associates in North Little Rock, AR. After moving to St. Louis she continued work as a children’s therapist and medical research interviewer. Lauri holds a Bachelors degree in Religion from Hendrix College and a Masters in Social Work from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. For the past 10 years Lauri has worked part time for Amit’s company, Amitech Solutions. Lauri is a volunteer yoga teacher to children at the Indian cultural school, Bal Vihar of St. Louis. She is chair of the WSSL Permanent Campus Committee and has completed the Foundation Studies program with the Center for Anthroposophy.

Laura Wiley

Laura joins the Board for the ‘15-’16 school year after serving as an assistant teacher in WSSL’s Early Childhood program for the last three years, and as a member of the school’s Operations Committee. In the summer of 2014, Laura took part in Sunbridge College’s training entitled: Healthy Development in the Early Childhood Years. Laura graduated summa cum laude from Rutgers University in New Jersey in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Evolution, and Natural Resources. Prior to coming to WSSL, Laura worked as an instructor for the Saint Louis Zoo. Laura also volunteers with Kingdom House, an area organization dedicated to helping disadvantaged residents lift themselves out of poverty by providing them with educational and support programming.

The Board of Trustees is financially and legally responsible for the school. The Board is also the school’s link to the community. The Board sets the strategic direction of the school. Board members come from our school community, our faculty and from the community at large, bringing diverse competencies to serve the organization.

Regular meetings are held the fourth Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the Lockwood campus. Board meetings are open, except for sessions where confidentiality is required. The agenda and approved minutes are available through the office.

To observe a Board meeting, please contact the Board Vice President at least three days prior to the meeting. This will guarantee that you will be notified of any changes in times and/or venue.
